Tietjen
Rick Tietjen is an accomplished higher education and nonprofit executive with over 30 years of experience. As Vice President, Chief of Staff, and head of Information Technology at The Culinary Institute of America (CIA), he plays a key role in advancing the institution’s strategy, operations, and technology infrastructure.
A trusted leader and collaborator, Rick oversees government relations, community engagement, and college-wide initiatives that strengthen both academic and administrative excellence. His leadership has supported major institutional milestones, including the launch of the CIA Greystone and San Antonio campuses, the development of CIA Copia in Napa Valley, the Dassai Blue Sake Brewery, and new degree programs. He has also championed innovations in emerging technologies such as 3D food printing and robotics.
Since joining the CIA’s senior leadership team in 2010, Rick has worked under Presidents Dr. Tim Ryan and Michiel Bakker to promote innovation, growth, and the CIA’s continued leadership in global culinary education.
